I suffered hearing loss on my right ear since I was kid. I couldn't remember when it happen and to date I am not sure if I was born with a defective right ear hearing impairment or it was due to sickness. I never had any further checkout since then because it did not hamper my day to day life.
Loss of hearing is a very common ailment in people over 70 years of age. This does not mean that young adults or even children can't develop hearing problems. Hearing loss treatment can only be decided on once the cause and the nature of the problem has been identified.
You get different kinds of deafness. The one that can be treated and often cured is called temporary hearing loss. Permanent loss of hearing means it can't be reversed. There are still remedies available though. Tinnitus is when you experience a booming or ringing sensation in your ears.
When you suddenly develop hearing loss, it's very important to immediately take steps to remedy the situation. Often temporary loss of hearing can be remedied if attended to immediately. Sometimes all you have is an infection that can be cured by a course of antibiotics.
Your hearing problem could have a very innocent cause as well. Sometimes it's nothing else but too much ear wax in your ears. If this is the case, you don't even have to visit an ear specialist. Your family doctor should be able to clear up the problem quickly by removing the wax.
Very often sudden hearing loss is the result of an injury of some sorts. If you suddenly find yourself deaf in one or both ears after an accident, immediately get the problem attended to. It could be that the bones in your middle ear have been damaged or broken. This might require surgery to fix, but your hearing could most likely be restored completely.
Many people swear by using natural medicines or steroids to treat sudden loss of hearing. The important factor here is once again the correct diagnosis of the nature or the problem. Once you have a correct diagnosis, herbal products or Ayurvedic medicine could prove very beneficial to relieve the symptoms or even fully restore your hearing.
If you suffer from permanent hearing loss, you might require a hearing aid. Although hearing aids are state of the art nowadays, they still don't completely replace your normal hearing ability. You might take time to adapt to the type of sound produced by such an aid, but in the end, once you are used to it, it will have a hugely positive effect on your ability to enjoy your life and interact with people.
Sometimes, for various reasons, a hearing aid doesn't do the trick. In cases like this, doctors often revert to what is called a Cochlear implant. A minute electronic device is implanted into the auditory nerve during an operation. The device has the ability to convert electronic signals to audible sound waves. The sound quality might not be perfect, but once again it will allow you to lead a virtually normal life.
