Risk Of Excessive Health Supplement Intake

There is no doubt that vitamin and mineral supplements can indeed help replenish our body and make it stronger to help cope with side effects of aging, improper diet, hectic lifestyle, chronic stress, lack of exercise and inadequate sleep.

Vitamin supplement industry is big business. Singapore has one of the highest populations that spend considerable money on health related products. Multivitamin supplements are hot selling health products and the stock gets replenished quickly due to high demand.

As the saying goes, intake too much of everything is bad for you. Excessive intake of vitamin supplements can be quite harmful and detrimental to your health. Multivitamin supplements are usually laboratory synthesized and chemically processed and unlike those found in natural food, it can accumulate and build up to dangerous level within our body.

Excess vitamin A could cause hair loss, reduce bone density and liver damage. Too much vitamin C may cause stomach upset and diarrhea. Large doses of vitamin E may cause harm to the kidney and heart. Too much vitamin D intake may cause muscle weakness and accumulation of calcium at harmful level in the body.

Excess water-soluble vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B and C can pass out quickly from the body through urine, perspiration and passing of motion. Fat-soluble vitamins such as A and E are more difficult to break down and discharge from the body. As matter of fact, fat soluble vitamins are more likely to accumulate and stay in the body.

Some of the side effects are temporal and goes away when you reduce or stop taking the vitamin health supplements. Some of it are however permanent and caused irreversible damaged to critical organs. Even though FDA does not regulate most health supplements products, one should always take precaution to avoid excessive consumption.

Some consumer thought that they would become healthier if they take high dosage of vitamin supplements regularly. Sad to say this is far from the truth. One relevant and interesting question that is often being put forward and discussed is how often and how much vitamin supplement intake is considered excessive.

Some people strictly follow the dosage recommended by the health supplement manufacturers.
Others think they won’t get to experience the full efficacy of the health supplements if they reduce or cut down intake from the recommended dosage. On the other hand there are also those who take the health supplements so sparingly and infrequently that they never get to finish it throughout the shelf life of the product.

It is worth to note that the recommended dosage is just a rough guideline. Doctors usually advice and recommend using the RDA (recommended dietary allowance) as reference and guideline to determine the amount of health supplements you may safely consume daily.


Always start with lower dosage and increase it gradually by the weeks to allow your body adjust to the health supplement intake . To begin with, take half of that recommended by the drug producers. For instance if the label indicates taking a pill three times daily, you should restrict to one daily or perhaps or once every two days. Drink plenty of water if you take health supplements everyday.

Individual has different response and tolerance level to health supplement intake. Those whose detoxification system are weak such as the elderly, children and the sickly has higher chances of suffering side effects from build up of toxins in the body due to excess dosage of vitamin supplement intake.

Girl With No Face

It's been quite awhile since I last updated this blog. Anyway, I have been busy the past few weeks and barely had the chance to share my thoughts. Anyway, here is sad story about a girl with no face story .

This is one of the most heart-wrenching stories I ever come across. It must be difficult for the child and more so for the parents to endure such challenges in life.
I guess for the rest of us out there, we ought to be thankful for our health and our wellness.

Stop complain about what we don’t have and know that there are many people much less fortunate than us who has to struggle with every minute of their life.

Weight Gain - You Need Not Worry Unduly

Weight gain can be caused by various factors and thus a solution that works for someone may not work for you. For instance, there are those who are able to keep their weight in check by keeping to strict regime of regular exercise while some ended up with extra pounds around their waist despite even though they work out hard in the gym regularly.

There those who live by popping diet pills to stay trim and swear that it works. There confirmed reports of many people experiencing serious side effects and even fatalities with some weight loss control drugs. The FDA does not regulate most weight loss products because it is considered diet supplements.

Some believed that traditional medication involving herbs, acupuncture or even mental will can suppress and help you to get rid of excess fats. It has come to the point whereby most people believed the fastest way to get their body back in shape is through weight loss surgery.

As a matter of fact it has quite becomes the ends of all means for some people to get rid of extra pounds via surgery. The cost to get liposuction, gastric bypass and other weight loss surgery done are getting cheaper by the years.

Instead of looking forward to long vacation during year end, we now have many housewives and even teenagers seeking weight loss surgery and other excess fat treatments as form of enjoyment and satisfaction in life.

Some vacation travel agencies include SPA and weight loss programmed part of holiday package trip itinerary. Even private hospitals and medical centers are jumping into the bandwagon by including what is term holiday cum health screen package.

Weight loss business is a multi billion-dollar industry. Hundreds of new weight loss products are introduce into the market each year. Weight loss products and services are but some of commercial business entities which guarantees high demand and high profitability.

I find it quite amusing that people are willing to pay more to rid more stuffs from their body. Most people overlook the fact that it is normal to gain weight as one aged. Our body is a piece of marvelous machine and weight gain is part of parcel of the body system responding to lifestyle and environmental changes to maintain health.

It's quite natural that we all want to look nice physically even as we aged. The key factor though is that we can't fight against mother nature. You need not worry unduly if you find yourself gaining extra pounds as you aged. The factor to take note is that weight gain is moderate and span across time.

It's common sense that you should take note and be on your toes if you gain extra pounds in days or weeks. On the other hand you have more more to worry if you start losing weight drastically as you aged. Contrary to what most people think, uncontrolled weight loss as one aged is not a good sign. Our body is design to accumulate and maintain excess fat. Sudden weight loss could be a sign of diabetic, hyperthyroidism and etc.

In summary, do consider if it is necessary for you to consider weight loss if you are in your late 30s or beyond. If you lead a healthy lifestyle, take proper healthy meals, get adequate quality sleep and learn to cope with stress, weight gain is not something to be unduly worry with.
