There are many people out there who believe that eating less and exercising more will result in weight loss. This is far from the truth. As a matter of fact, eating less and exercising more can indeed cause some weight loss in the short term but cannot be sustain in the longer term. To make matter worst, eating less and exercising more will instead result in even bigger weight gain in the long term. Why is that so?
Have you ever asked your self why is it that your friend’s way of losing weight it seems not giving you half of the results she or he enjoys? Have you ever wonder why some people tend to eat a lot more than you but yet do not seem to gain weight at all? Have you ever wonder why those dress and clothing of yours that seems nice fitting becomes impossible to put on after 5 to 10 years later or as you aged?
The fact of the matter is that weight gain or loss has a lot and got to do with your metabolic rate. This metabolic rate varies in every person and it means we need varied way of losing weight. Metabolic rate is the rate at which our body burns calories to sustain life. Our body endlessly burns calories even if we are sleeping. Our muscles are responsible for burning down calories though we are not performing any physical activity. Muscles are called “metabolic reactive” because of the said qualities.
One important thing to take note is what science term as the resting metabolic rate. It is defined as the basic amount of energy or calories needed to run your metabolism for the day. Understanding what controls our appetite and metabolism, the way our body use or burn calories is the golden key to successful weight management and being able to keep your resting metabolic rate at top performance and tune up means being able to burn calories even while you are resting or asleep.
As we progressively aged our metabolic rate tends to slow down thus this result in less efficient burning of extra calories from our body. This explains why most people put on weight when they grow older.
According to medical weight loss experts, muscles are the biggest factor in a person’s metabolic rate. It is important to note that our bodies are genetically wired to make us gain weight and to keep it on. The key to achieving long term and sustainable weight loss is by knowing how to tune up your restive metabolism rate and thus use your natural calorie burning capabilities to help you regulate your weight.
Sound incredible, but oh yes, it is true. We should eat more to lose weight and not eat less to loose weight. Sounds crazy? The problem with eating less to the extend of starvation is that it causes our body to think its starving to death and this sets off chemical processes that forces us to eat more.
The biggest reason why dieting backfire is due to the fact that people restrict too much on eating and let the number of calories they consume drop below their resting metabolic rate. Dieting cost-losing muscle more than fat. Muscle burn over 70 times more calories than fat. When we diet and then eat more, we gain more fat and loss more muscle.
Quite often we have been misinformed that we should take note of the amount of calories intake because the more calories we intake, the faster we gain weight. This is absolute not true. The amount of calories intake is not as important as the type of calories that we are taking.
Thus instead of trying crashing course diets and starving ourselves to death, why not focused on eating the right kind of food to help lose weight?
